  • TITLE: " Embed This " Doesn't mean anything. I just thought it was amusing.

Here's the definition of "embed" form the Merriam-Webster Unabridged:

a : to enclose closely in or as if in a matrix - pebbles embedded in silt - embed brick firmly in mortar> b : to introduce as an integral part - embeds - the tales of his prowess that have become embedded in folklore

  • "... Subscription Drive ..." If you missed the e-mail about the subscription drive, you should go here to read it.

  • "... Back Judge ..." Here are the duties of a Back Judge:
    Basic Responsibilities
    ARTICLE 1.
    a. The responsibilities of the back judge include counting the defensive team, timing the game, ruling on long passes and kicks, and the status of the ball in his area.
    b. The back judge observes eligible receivers leaving the neutral zone.
    c. The back judge has the responsibility for ball persons in a five- or sixman crew.

    Position
    ARTICLE 2.
    a. On scrimmage plays, the back judge in a five-, six- or seven-man crew is positioned approximately 20 to 25 yards beyond the neutral zone and deeper than the defensive backfield. The lateral position is determined by the use of a field judge or side judge.
    b. On free kicks, the back judge in a five-, six- or seven-man crew is at the sideline at the 10-yard line of the receiving team.

  • "... Wine Spectator ..." Here's the link the Wine Spectator's poll on French wine.

  • "... Coalition of the Willing ..." The White House count of countries supporting the US-led effort in Iraq now numbers 46.

  • "... Martha Brandt ..." Here's the link to Martha Brandt's somewhat cranky Newsweek piece.

  • "... Traffic Deaths ..." This is not meant to trivialize either number but, rather, to provide some context. If you accept the argument, as I do, that the deaths in Iraq are in the cause of freedom and the deaths on California's (or any other state's) highways, are in the cause of getting to the Walmart more quickly, then it would make a great deal more sense for protesters to block civilian traffic in the US all day every day.

According to the National Transportation and Safety Administration some 3,760 Californians died in car wrecks in 1999. At 10.3 per day, that works out to about 51 people since Wednesday. As of this writing 25 allied military had been killed since the beginning of hostilities.

  • Mullfoto of the Day:

This is the French Ambassador's residence in Washington where I was the only protester except I had to stop protesting so I could take this picture of no protesters!

If those on the right were serious, they would lie down in front of those on the left.
