  • "Amsterdam News ...": Here's the link to the reporting about Belafonte's visit to a Black New York Church.

  • " Jerry Falwell ...": The e-mailed version of Mullings contains an error of fact. It was Pat Robertson, not Jerry Falwell who called for the hit on Chavez.

    Mullfoto of the Day

Walking around Georgetown last weekend, I stopped to chat with a young man who was handing out bumperstickers thinking he was involved in something important. This was the approximate conversation:

    ME:     What's "zendik?"
KID:     It's a Sanskrit word that means, like, out of the ordinary.
ME:     I thought Sanskrit was a non-written language.
    KID:     It is.
ME:     Isn't "zendik" written on that bumper strip?
KID:     (Worried about what he has gotten into) Well, yeah.
ME:     If Sanskrit is a non-written language, how can that word - written right there - be Sanskrit?
    KID:     I, uh, look ...
ME:     Kind of an existential dilemma, isn't it?
    KID:     I guess so.
ME:     Out of the ordinary, sort of?
    KID:     Uh huh.
    ME:     Zendik.

I do not, as you may have noticed, have much of a life.

    Catchy Caption of the Day

    Actual Caption:

Animal rights activists from PETA and AnimaNaturalis stage a naked protest curled up on the pavement outside Barcelona, Spain city hall to denounce the abuse and slaying of animals to make fur coats.

See? This ... THIS is why I'm for global warming. Naked protests in January!
