* Sandy Berger … Berger was talking about the
inability of the United States to respond to every
example of someone acting badly toward
someone else by saying he couldn’t be
responsible for the condition of his daughter’s
room. Berger later said he regretted the metaphor.
             * For those who ever doubted … Former Senator Danforth has been appointed by
Attorney General Janet Reno to investigate who did what at the siege at Waco five
years ago. He has indicated he does not want to generate a great deal of publicity
for this effort. Nonetheless, there he was.
             * Tim Russert’s interview … Jimenez, one of the Puerto Rican terrorists released
from jail this week, was absolutely unrepentant, did not admit to having caused any
injuries or deaths, and blamed the United States government for his problems.
             * Pat Buchanan … said on a Sunday show that his sister, Bay Buchanan, was
“talking with” representatives of the Reform Party about jumping ship and running
             under their banner.
             * Note for the Beatty Boomers … Warren Beatty (the actor) allowed a small
boomlet to begin a month ago for his entry into the Democratic primaries. He is a
liberal who does not believe his issues are on the Dems’ agenda. Last week
actress Cybil Shepherd said she might be interested in getting in. Shepherd and
Bruce Willis co-starred in a television show about a private detective agency for
several years. The show was pretty good.
             * I was going to let the appearance … James Carville – the Democrat – and Mary
Matalin – the Republican – are married to each other.
