Klaatu, Barada Nikto

TITLE: “Klaatu, Barada Nikto” .. from the 1951 movie “The Day the Earth Stood Still”. They were the words that Klaatu (Michael Rennie) instructed Helen Bensen (Patricia Neal) to speak if he was injured and needed the help of Klaatu’s robot, Gort.

“The debate over the Brooklyn Museum…” Actually the Brooklyn Museum of Art is a pretty well-known and (until this week) highly respected institution.

“Quinnipiac College…” is a medium-size (6,000 students) college located in Hamden Connecticut about halfway between New York City and Boston.

“AT&T …” The communications monster – AT&T used to be the ONLY long distance service in the US and controlled a huge percentage of local telephone service. There was a time – not so long ago – when it was illegal to own the phones in your house. You had to rent them from Bell Telephone. In 1984 AT&T was ordered to divest itself of local telephone service and to permit companies like Sprint and MCI to compete for long distance service. The local telephone companies (called the Baby Bells) have since begun to recombine into large regional, national and international phone companies.

“Newt Gingrich could reprise …” Prior to entering politics Gingrich was a professor of history.

“… the Michael Rennie role …” Who do YOU think can land on the Mall and save the world from itself?
