The Death of Simple Things

Wednesday September 12, 2001

  • TITLE: "We'll Call it, Modestly: The Mullings Plan" I am given to understand that the name "The Marshall Plan" has already been taken. Drat.

  • "… traffic jams …" Many of the roads leading to downtown Washington change direction depending upon whether it is AM rush or PM rush. On those rare occasions (previously snow storms) when the Government shuts down early and commercial offices follow suit, it causes extraordinary traffic jams. Yesterday was exacerbated by the fact that the major western route out of town runs right next to the Pentagon.

  • "… patrolling high above the Potomac ..." Living in the flight path of Reagan National Airport is a mixed blessing. On the one hand I can be at the airport in about 10 minutes. On the other hand I listen to every flight every time you're going somewhere.

  • "… Barbara Olson …" Here is a link to a frightening account of Ms. Olson's cell phone calls as the plane was being hijacked.

  •     Mullings' Catchy Caption of the Day:

                     American Sepia.
