  • "... Hurricane ...": Here's the link to a pretty good discussion of hurricanes from Answer.com.

  • "... millibars ...": From PhysicalGeography.net:
    Atmospheric Pressure
    The weight of the atmosphere on a surface. At sea-level, the average atmospheric pressure is 1013.25 millibars. Pressure is measured by a device called a barometer.

    So when measuring the strength of a hurricane the lower the atmospheric pressure, the greater the power (wind flows from high pressure to low). So, keeping in mind the average pressure is about 1013 millibars the now-famous Saffir- Simpson Scale of hurricane strength reads as follows:

    Category 1:Damage: Minimal; Wind Speed: 74-95 mph; Storm Surge: 4-5 feet;
    Atmospheric Pressure: Over 980 Millibars
    Category 2: Moderate; 96-110 mph; 6-8 feet;
    965-980 Millibars
    Category 3: Extensive; 111-130 mph; 9-12 feet;
    945-964 Millibars
    Category 4: Extreme; 131-155 mph; 13-18 feet;
    920-944 Millibars
    Category 5: Catastrophic; Over 155 mph; Over 18 ft.;
    Under 920 Millibars

  • Mullfoto of the Day

    In the good old days of flying in first class there were often two varieties of red wine from which to choose. This is the actual label of the actual bottle of wine which was available on a Delta flight from Atlanta to San Diego last week.

    It will not surprise you to learn that no corkscrew was needed:
