Pressing Business
Monday June 4, 2001

  • TITLE: "Pressing Business" A lot of little press things annoyed and/or interested me this weekend and so I wanted you to be annoyed, too!

  • "… personal denial …" Here is the relevant portion of Senator McCain's statement regarding leaving the GOP:
"As I have said repeatedly, I have no intention of running for president, nor do I have any intention of or cause to leave the Republican Party. I hope this will put an end to further speculation on this subject."

  • "… Americans for Democratic Action …" Here is the link to the ADA's website so you can check how the Left views your Representative or Senator.

  • "… Ari Fleischer …" Here is the Washington Post story on Ari Fleischer's statement regarding the GAO report on whether or not the Gore people acted as adults upon leaving office.
  • "… Dick Gregory …" Gregory was one of the early Black comedians - Bill Cosby was another - who broke through into "standard stand-up" whether social satire or reminiscences. This signaled the end of the Jack Benny and Rochester "Yes, Boss" as the only type of comedy available to Black artists.

His famous riffs from those early days contained lines like these:

"What we used to call Negro History Week is now called Black History Month. Of course, wouldn't you know that when they got around to giving us a month, it would be the month of February, with all them days missing?"
