Hardly Enough Money

Monday April 2, 2001

  • TITLE: "Hardly Enough Money " I guess this could have been "Killing Me Softly" or some other combination phrases with either soft or hard, but this was what we're going with today!

  • "…$447 million …" These numbers come from the opensecrets.org website.

  • "…State of South Freedonia …" This otherwise excellent plan might have to be adapted in some ways, but the general theory is correct.

  • "… I Surrender, Dear." A song recorded by Bing Crosby on Jan. 19, 1931. and later that year became the title of a Mach Sennett two-reeler.
Note on this label that the top billing goes to that famed American musician, Gus Arnheim and his Cocoanut Grove Orchestra.

  • "…Randolph Duke …" A high fashion designer who's gowns made a splash at this year's Oscars. Duke used to work for Halston, but you already knew that.

  • "… Ralph Bellamy …" In the Eddy Murphy/Dan Akroyd film, "Trading Places" Ralph Bellamy played the part of Randolph Duke. He died in 1991.

  • "…Manuel Noriega…" In 1989 the US invaded Panama to arrest its dictator, Manuel Noriega. They didn't want to shoot him and when he shut himself up in his house, the Army (or the CIA or somebody) engaged in psychological warfare by playing hard rock music at high intensity - I am not making this up - until Noriega finally couldn't take it any more and was arrested.

  • "…David Boies …" Is Napster's lawyer.

  • Mullings' Catchy Caption of the Day:

…and then Johnny Carson did this with the card, see?
and he read the answer and then some other guy gave the
question. The Americans thought this was very funny.
