  • This impeachment business has gone from zero to 17,500 miles per hour in record speed.

  • That is not good for the Republic.

  • You know that I am not the biggest fan of Donald Trump that ever was. But, there is a reason the Founders made it hard to overturn an election for President: They wanted impeachment to be taken seriously.

  • The febrile overactivity in the Congress, at the White House and State Department, and on Television is not healthy - and not serious.

  • This investigation does not have to take two years, but neither is there any reason to race through the process in two weeks, or even two months.

  • Next year's caucus and primary election calendar should not drive the impeachment process. It should take as long as it needs to take.

  • There is no question of what Donald Trump wants from the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. He wants the Ukrainian government to investigate Joe Biden and his son Hunter and their activities there.

  • If you are a fan of Donald Trump you believe the Bidens are guilty of interfering with an official investigation into the natural gas company on whose board Hunter sat. According to almost every credible source, such an investigation was done and the Bidens were found to have done nothing wrong.

  • If you are an anti-Trumper you believe the phone call from Trump to Zelensky contained an explicit demand, effectively telling Zelensky to investigate Biden or risk getting no money to defend Ukraine against Russia.

  • I think Trump is probably guilty of extortion. My point is, he will still be guilty of extortion if the House Committees under Democratic control, take the time to build their case properly.

  • Example: Special Envoy to Ukraine, Kenneth Volker testified for many hours on Thursday.

  • I'm not a prosecutor, but I think regular order would have been to ask for (or subpoena) documents, call people with whom Volker worked, with whom he communicated, to whom he reported and then call Volker to have the proper foundation to decode Volker's testimony.

  • Same with the recalled U.S. Ambassador to Kyiv, Marie Yovanovitch who is scheduled to testify next week: Documents, cables, embassy employees, and so on.

  • Of course, as long as Donald Trump, as he did Thursday, keeps publicly admitting to having urged foreign nations to become involved in the U.S. elections on his behalf, the Ds could probably get 218 votes for impeachment tomorrow afternoon.

  • The Congress is on a break through next week. Members of the House will get an earful from their constituents on impeachment - pro and con.

  • It will be interesting to see whether those home visits will add fuel to the impeachment fire, or serve to slow things down.

  • On the Secret Decoder Ring page today: Links to the bios of both former Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch, and to Kurt Vogel also to the Simon & Garfunkel song that contains the line "Slow down, you're movin' too fast."
